Eating Disorder Center of Denver
Eating Disorders Freestanding Outpatient Facility

The Program
"In Its Own Words"

Self Description:

"EDC-D provides partial hospitalization (11 hrs/day, 7 days/week, evening intensive (4hrs/day, 3 days week), and outpatient programs for male and female patients (16 years and older who are suffering from anorexia, bulimina and binge eating disorder."

Treatment Philosophy:

"Using a bio-psycho-social-spiritual approach, a team of physicians, psychiatrists, clinicians, experiental arts therapists, family therapists and dietitians work together to match each patient's motivatio and change style to the appropriate treatment modality. With a focus on empowering change, the EDC-D team of eating disorder specialists encourages patients to practice internalized recovery skills and celebrate success as they transition from the supportive structured environment to their home."

Family Program:

"At EDC-D, we believe it is crucial to involve the family, to learn about the family culture and to understand the nuances of how family members communicate. We have discovered that the collaboration and support of family works best for the patient's long-term recovery. Patients and their families meet with family therapists during the week and a multi-family group is held on Saturdays."

Position On 12 Step Involvement:

"EDC-D is not a 12 Step treatment model as upon admission, patients are asked to abstain from alcohol and drugs. If a patient needs support to maintain abstinence, they attend the partial hospitalization program addictions group and are encouraged to attend an AA support group in the immediate area."

Position On Approach to Compulsive Overeating vs. Anorexia/Bulimia:

"Patients are not separated by diagnoses for the group therapy sessions or meals. Specific patient needs and/or issues are addressed by primary therapists during individual therapy sessions."

Additional Characteristics:

"EDC-D uses the best of conventional and integrative therapies to heal the body, mind and spirit and patients and families affected by anorexia, bulimia and binge eating disorder. As the only treatment facility that offers partial hospitalization for adults in Colorado, EDC-D has a proven treatment model that has worked for hundreds of men and women dealing with eating disorders."
