Red Rock Canyon School

Long Term Residential Program

The Program
"In Its Own Words"

Self Description:

"A state licensed treatment facility for adolescents, ages 12-17 with behavioral and or emotional problems who require a level of structure and treatment beyond that which is available in traditional outpatient clinics, but who do not require intensive psychiatric care."

Treatment Philosophy:

"We provide a full continuum of care which is designed to help young people break through their denial, take accountability for their actions, gain a positive vision of their future, develop specific skills and experience necessary to set and achieve meaningful goals and to develop a feeling of self-worth."

Approach To Dual Diagnosis:

"Our therapy program is designed to apply each of the 12 Steps in the context of dual disordered patients and to teach the youth about the negative implications of continued drug usage to self-medicate psychiatric conditions."

Family Program:

"Many of our Family Program sessions focus on educating families about the disease of drug addiction and how it affects the entire family, as well as teaching and developing healthy family systems to heal the wounds which have resulted from that addiction."

Position On 12 Step Involvement:

"Our program integrates and uses the 12 Step principles in all aspects of treatment to break through the denial, learn accountability for one's actions, develop skills to recognize relapse triggers and practice refusal skills, and to take one day at a time in a lifetime commitment to continued sobriety."

Position on Confrontation:

"Youth are appropriately confronted for continuing denial, false image, dishonesty, and other self-defeating behaviors, which can interfere with their recovery, in both individual and supervised group settings."

Additional Characteristics:

"We provide families with monthly written progress reports in order to keep them updated and involved; allow weekly phone contact and monthly visits which include therapy sessions; provide quarterly Family Week Programs with housing and meals provided; and have Case Managers keep in close touch throughout aftercare."
