Addiction Resource Guide

Saint Jude Retreat House
Freestanding - Alternative Program

The Program
"In Its Own Words"

Self Description:

"We use The Freedom Model approach, which is a non-12 Step, non-disease based, non-treatment based option for overcoming substance use and any other habitual behaviors."

Approach to Dual Diagnosis:

"We recognize that most people who struggle with substance use often have additional issues that they are dealing with, however our expertise is on substance use, so that is our primary focus."

Family Program:

"We offer a Family Program Workshop specifically for the family to learn how to best help their loved one."

Position on 12 Step Involvement:

"We are a non-12 Step Model. 12 Step programs are ineffective and evidence suggests 12 Step programs do more harm than good."

Position on Confrontation:

"Research has shown that treatment in a confrontational approach is detrimental to individuals trying to overcome substance use problems."

Additional Characteristics:

"We reject the idea of labeling our guests with derogatory labels such as "Alcoholic" or "addict." At St. Jude's you are a person with habits you wish to change, and that is how we see you."
