Self Description:
“Aspen Achievement Academy is a licensed outdoor treatment program that integrates a sophisticated therapeutic component with an accredited academic curricula.”
Treatment Philosophy:
“Aspen guides each participant through a series of powerful metaphors that symbolize stages of growth, provide deeper insight towards developing self-reliance and generate a sense of responsibility for self and community. We create a modern “rite of passage” designed to assist adolescents in making the transition to responsible young adulthood.”
Approach to Dual Diagnosis:
“Aspen’s Masters level and PhD clinicians, who do both individual and group therapy with program participants, work extremely effectively with Dual Diagnosis issues.”
Family Program:
“Parents participate in the program through: weekly treatment planning sessions, written therapy assignments, a family growth book, books & audio cassettes, and a 3 day workshop at the end of the program when parents are reunited with their child and take part in a family camping experience that includes family therapy.”
Position on 12 Step Involvement:
“Aspen Achievement Academy’s chemical dependency treatment program can best be described as a comprehensive integration of the highest level of clinical care and therapy available, 12 Step work, and relapse prevention planning conducted in the sober and powerfully healthy environment that only nature can provide.”
Position on Confrontation:
“We believe that teens must discover their own guiding principles. Treatment is therefore based on assisting students in gaining insight rather than coercing compliance through heavy-handed behavior modification approaches.”
Additional Characteristics:
“Established in 1988, Aspen Achievement Academy is one of the longest running successful outdoor treatment programs of its kind in the country. We have a fully accredited academic component and students may receive high school credit.”
