Self Description:
“Pia’s Place is an all women’s extended-care program designed to facilitate and foster healthy self-esteem and recovery from addictive behaviors such as substance abuse, sex, love, and relationship addictions, and eating disorders.”
Treatment Philosophy:
“Pia’s Place program is based on the philosophy that codependency underlies all addictions and childhood trauma/family or origin issues are at the root of codependency and must be addressed in order to achieve and maintain abstinence from addictive behavior.”
Approach To Dual Diagnosis:
“Dually diagnosed clients participate in a six week psychoeducational course focused on symptoms management; attend a weekly dual diagnosis step study, and are expected to attend a community-based dual diagnosis 12 Step meeting.”
Family Program:
“Pia’s Place Family Program focuses on boundary setting, improving communication skills and on creating a family system that supports recovery based principles. The Family Workshop happens over a long weekend and typically happens in the 3rd month of treatment.”
Position On 12 Step Involvement:
“Clients are required to attend daily 12 Step meetings while at Pia’s Place and to work with a sponsor, and are encouraged to continue in 12 Step programs following discharge. 12 Step involvement is essential to recovery.”
Position On Confrontation:
“Confrontation when done responsibly, is important and necessary in order to gain insight into negative behaviors, to share feelings with other community members and to grow in one’s recovery. Clients are taught communication skills to aid in the development of assertiveness and intimacy.”
Additional Characteristics:
“All women staff. All female clientele. Focus on women’s developmental issues, psychiatric concerns, and addiction issues. Nurturing, intimate facility and program design/philosophy. Experiential therapy. Holistic treatment approach.”
