Self Description:
“ARC is an extended care, residential, dual diagnosis treatment program for adult men and women, providing treatment emphasis on relapse prevention, and specializing in the simultaneous treatment of addiction, PTSD and other psychiatric disorders.”
Treatment Philosophy:
“ARC is committed to providing the highest quality treatment, leading patients instead of pushing patients with sensitivity, dignity and respect while utilizing the patience and tolerance necessary to begin where the patient is, avoiding unrealistic expectations.”
Approach To Dual Diagnosis:
“ARC utilizes a combination of education, group and individual therapy and appropriate application of the 12 Step principles to assist patients in taking responsibility for their own recovery. Pharmacological strategies may be recommended, when appropriate.”
Family Program:
“Families are offered a 4-day program, in which families and patients work together throughout the 4 days, exploring underlying individual and family issues, and becoming educated in the nature and treatment of dual diagnosis.”
Position On 12 Step Involvement:
“12 Step involvement is essential and mandatory, with all ARC patients required to obtain a sponsor, work the steps and attend meetings every night.”
Position on Confrontation:
“While ARC acknowledges that patient defenses must be breached, we believe in providing positive alternate perspectives rather than tearing down old belief systems, and ARC does not condone the retraumatization of already traumatized patients.”
Additional Characteristics:
“In treating addiction and psychiatric issues simultaneously, ARC is successful with the most difficult patients, those who have a history of chronic relapse due to “underlying issues,” very often associated with trauma. This treatment requires a very tightly-knit clinical team, willing to begin where the patients are, and employing an unusual degree of tolerance. ARC succeeds with those who’ve failed everywhere else.”
