Self Description:
“Ashley is a freestanding alcohol and drug treatment center that provides primary addiction treatment, including medically supervised detoxification, for individuals 18 years old and older.”
Treatment Philosophy:
“For more than 25 years our sole purpose has been to heal. Ashley’s mission is to provide drug and alcohol addiction treatment that combines the science of medicine, the art of therapy and the compassion of spirituality for patients and their families.”
Approach To Dual Diagnosis:
“Ashley treats dual diagnoses and co-occurring disorders. They require medical and/or psychological/psychiatric records prior to admission and the other diagnosis needs to be manageable so it doesn’t interfere with the patient’s ability to successfully participate in the chemical addiction treatment programs. All dually diagnosed patients are seen by Ashley’s full-time staff psychiatrist and/or full-time physician.”
Family Program:
“Ashley conducts an onsite Family Program each weekend and patients are encouraged to invite family members to participate in one of the weekend Family Programs during their stay at Ashley. The program educates the family on the aspects of the disease as well as how to relate to, and support, the patient’s sobriety when he/she leaves treatment. Ashley also offers the Rainbow of Hope children’s program specially designed to help children ages 6-14 who are living, or have lived, in homes with addiction.”
Position On 12 Step Involvement:
“12 Step programs are integral to Ashley’s program. Patients’ daily group counseling sessions focus on building familiarity with and working on the first steps. 12 Step meetings are held on campus each evening and patients are chaperoned to local outside meetings during their stay. Attending 90 12 Step meetings in 90 days is an important part of every patient’s continuing care plan.”
Position on Confrontation:
“Ashley’s professional, certified counselors may choose to challenge a patient’s assumptions to help them recognize and avoid addictive thinking and behaviors. However, Ashley treats each patient with dignity and respect and seeks to help them build their self-respect and self-worth.”
Additional Characteristics:
“Ashley is a media-free environment. Ashley has a special Relapse Program for treatment of relapse prone patients that includes group counseling sessions that are completely focused on relapse issues. There are separate tracks for Young Adults and for Women with separate group sessions for each of these patient groups. There are two dedicated continuing care specialists who create aftercare plans for each patient. The children’s program is open to any child living in a home with addiction. They don’t need to have a family member in treatment at Ashley. Ashley is located on a 145 acre campus on the banks of the Chesapeake Bay in northeast Maryland. They provide transportation to and from Philadelphia and Baltimore/Washington International Airports and from regional Amtrak Stations. There’s a full recreation program on campus which includes an indoor rec center, outdoor volleyball, basketball and track facilities, arts and crafts, aerobics, yoga and therapeutic drumming. There’s a full Alumni Relations program including regional Alumni chapters, an annual alumni reunion, a spiritual retreat, and a monthly Sobriety Enrichment workshop for alumni and all people in recovery. The onsite admission department is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 a year.”
