“Avia House is a 18 month residential drug and alcohol treatment facility for prenatal and postpartum women 18 and over.”

Approach To Dual Diagnosis:

“Avia House accepts women wtih a dual or triple diagnosis. Mental health treatment is concurrent with drug and alcohol recovery. We have psychiatric support within Women and Children’s Family Services.”

Family Program:

“Avia House employs a full time childcare specialist who works with mothers to help them develop parenting skills, and to address the needs of drug and alcohol exposed infants.”

Position On 12 Step Involvement:

“Avia House is a 12 Step social model.”

Position on Confrontation:

“Women who are in denial and or treatment noncompliant are confronted in an appropriate therapeutic non-abrasive way.”

Additional Characteristics:

“Women are offered a variety of psycho-education groups focusing on parenting skills, relapse prevention, drug and alcohol recovery education, in addition to programs focusing on the arts, most recently theatre and photography. Moreover, literacy and computer skills classes are offered. After the initial phase, women are allowed to add college and vocational classes.”
