Self Description:

“The Refuge is a trauma & PTSD treatment program focused on holistic rehab and co-occurring addictions, depression, anxiety and eating disorders.”

Treatment Philosophy:

“We believe that there are those who cannot achieve true sobriety until their trauma is resolved. The Refuge’s treatment program is designed to treat individuals at the mind, body and spirit levels. We are aware of the correlation between substance abuse issues, trauma and process addictions.”

Approach to Dual Diagnosis:

“Our approach to dual diagnosis treatment can best be described as long term, 12 Step based, experiential, and encouraging dyadic attachment. We believe trauma is centered in the nervous system. Each nervous system is different and the path to recovery is different for each individual, so we use many modalities and interventions.”

Family Program:

“The Refuge Family Program is 4 days and consists of a variety of educational presentations, experiential groups and individual sessions that allow family members to understand behaviors, mend relationships and establish boundaries. We consider this 4 day therapeutic program a very integral part of the treatment process.”

Position on 12 Step Involvement:

“The Refuge puts tremendous value on living life one day at a time, which is why we fully embrace the 12 Step way of life. Our program is structured around the 12 Step fundamentals. We offer 12 Step groups every night both on and off campus, as well as break-out groups during the day.”

Position on Confrontation:

“The Refuge likes to meet individuals where they are when they admit to our program. We avoid confrontational therapy methods as much as possible, to avoid triggering the trauma survivors we are treating.”
